5 Tips for Migrating to Sage X3

Sage X3 provides advanced, all-in-one ERP with industry-specific depth and new technologies for intuitive usability – the driving success at many companies. To maximize the value your business gains from Sage X3, you should be well prepared for the migration.

Use the following 5 tips for migrating to Sage X3.

Tip #1: Structure & Remove Data

Because Sage X3 uses dimensional accounting principles rather than predefined general ledger account segment values, you’ll need to structure your chart of accounts, natural accounts, segment requirements, etc. before you begin migrating. Then, once you’ve established your structures, you can review your existing data to ensure accuracy; if you find inaccurate data, remove it. Remember, “garbage in, garbage out.”

Tip #2: Determine Reporting Needs

It’s easy to create custom user interfaces in Sage X3, but don’t get caught up in the trap of designing aesthetically pleasing UIs that serve no function. Start by specifying the reports you need before migration. Keep in mind, though, that you’ll probably broaden the scope of what you report with Enterprise Management because it offers better reporting functionality along with automation and standardized dashboards.

Tip #3: Document Workflows

Document your existing as well as your desired workflows. Sage X3 provides visual process flows, which you can configure to match the way you perform vital functions. Following visual process flows drastically reduces user frustration and ensures faster system uptake to support transactions, reporting, file maintenance, and more.

Tip #4: Re-imagine Workflows with Expanded Inputs

With Sage X3, you can interface in real time with numerous Sage-compatible products, such as Avalara. Via Enterprise Management’s web services, you can expose your Enterprise Management and custom objects and functions as web services. Even better, you can create workflows that were impossible before implementing Sage Enterprise Management. Is there outside data that can speed up transactions? Are there third-party widgets that could provide more context in transactions? How would the workflow change as a result?

The bottom line is: if you can imagine it, Sage X3 can make it a workflow.

Tip #5: Define User Roles

Sage X3’s ability to establish role-based access to the system allows you to assign profiles to your users to avoid misuse of company data. You can, for example, grant partial access for data collection or operational tasks or full access for managers. In addition to protecting your data, this also saves you money, as you can purchase tiered-pricing licenses in which limited-access licenses are less expensive.

There aren’t a lot of things you can’t do with Sage Enterprise Management, and using best practices to prepare for your migration will only make it succeed faster. To see more of what’s possible before migration, check out Sage University and Sage City.
