Important Native Sage X3 Capabilities for Your Warehouse

Written by Jaleidy Tannenbaum | March 18, 2015

One of the easiest ways to improve your inventory control is to organize your warehouse. Every business has its own method of organization, and you must find one that makes sense to you – dividing by rows, aisles, shelves, some other unit, etc. Sage X3 does this natively, so you don’t need a third party add-on to help you define the various areas of the warehouse.

Why You Should Organize

Organizing your warehouse improves your inventory control and saves time, energy, efficiency, and money. Say, for example, you have inventory item “A.” That particular item is popular and leaves your warehouse often but is located at the back of the warehouse. This is a poor choice of location, because the person picking the inventory has to go all the way to the back of the warehouse every time item “A” is needed to complete a customer order. Which, because it is a fast-moving item, is often.

Having an employee do so much traveling to the back of the warehouse is a waste of vital resources: time and energy because much of the employee’s day consumed by retrieving this item, efficiency because the employee could be using his time to complete other tasks, and money because time is money.

Organization Options

First, you must know two things: where your items are in the first place, and the speed at which they leave your warehouse. Once you know these two things, you can allocate to your orders based on the criteria you find.

If you did an inventory count and assessed your inventory items’ popularity, so to speak, you would find that in the case of inventory item “A,” it makes more sense to re-organize your warehouse than it does to get a fast moving item from the back of the warehouse several times a day. In the process of re-organizing your warehouse, you should put all fast-moving items where they’re easiest to reach.

Why Sage X3?

Sage X3 has a native inventory management module as well as excellent native quality control. It can be automated to conduct inspections to guarantee that your products conform to the required specifications and acceptable standards as defined either by you or your industry. You can set the system to inspect products at various points throughout the production process or wait until the packaging process begins.

When you specify the criteria your products must meet, Sage X3’s quality control application will test for these rules and automatically quarantine substandard items. The system can then send custom alerts to inform you that an item needs further inspection.
